As part of our 4th Birthday celebration last year, we gave away an Annual Unlimited membership. The winner was Alice Early, a London-based designer of contemporary, sustainable clothing for women. Her work is awesome, by the way – and uses organic and sustainable materials!
We chatted to Alice about what’s been going on in the last year of her business, life and hot yoga, of course:
“I have loved trying out all the classes at FGB and meeting lots of wonderful teachers. My practice has improved and I feel stronger and more flexible at every class. I am now establishing myself in Brixton with my new studio, taking part in multiple pop up events and enjoying connecting with people in the industry and my customers.”
Tell us about yourself
I am a London-based designer of contemporary, sustainable clothing for women. I live in Brixton and have recently moved into my new studio run by architecture team Assemble at 3Space International House, Brixton. I launched my own collection in November 2018 at the same time I joined Fierce Grace. I take a holistic approach to design to develop a sustainable collection and I am motivated to create clothes that feel and look great but have a minimal impact on the environment. Using the finest organic and sustainable materials I design for long term enjoyment, producing my garments locally in London and ship using recyclable packaging.
What brought you to Fierce Grace Brixton?
I enjoy hot yoga and FGB was local. After stepping in to meet some friendly faces I decided to try it out. The year has been a fantastic opportunity to continue my practice at the same time as focussing on my new venture.
What’s your favourite class?
I like to mix up all the classes I take to maintain an element of surprise and avoid getting too comfortable with the same routine. I like to combine the faster flowing classes like Primal 60 with the slower focussed classes like Deep Core.
How has the last year been and what are you looking forward to?
I have loved trying out all the classes at FGB and meeting lots of wonderful teachers. My practice has improved and I feel stronger and more flexible at every class. I am now establishing myself in Brixton with my new studio, taking part in multiple pop up events and enjoying connecting with people in the industry and my customers. I am looking forward to sharing my new collection at my next pop up event in Stoke Newington this weekend. Taking the time to relax and unwind, stretching at the end of a long day is ideal at FGB and is integral to keeping the perfect work/life balance.
I will be returning to The Assembly Market on 23/24 November alongside independent designers and artisans working sustainably in fashion, accessories, contemporary jewellery, printmaking and homewares. I will be presenting my new collection featuring outerwear made from 100% Lambswool, woven in Yorkshire from one of the last remaining vertical woollen mills in Great Britain. I would love to see you there!
